About the Author

L-R: Bobby Valentine, our humble author

Yells for Ourselves was written by Matthew Callan. He once could be found whining about the Mets on the reg over at Amazin Avenue and occasionally still whines about everything else at Scratchbomb.com. You might have seen his writing on varied topics at The Awl, Baseball Prospectus, The Onion AV Club, The Classical, Low Times, Splitsider, Vice, and McSweeney’s, if you’re into that sorta thing. He also contributed to Excelsior, You Fathead!, a biography of legendary radio monologist Jean Shepherd.

On the fiction tip, stuff he made up has appeared in Vol. 1, Newtown Literary Journal, Sixfold, and Nimrod International Literary Journal. His stories have been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and shortlisted for other prizes in NimrodZoetrope: All-Story and Bomb Magazine. He is also the author of Hang A Crooked Number, a book about spies and baseball which is no longer in print so we’re not sure why it’s being mentioned here, but there we are.

Matthew Callan lives in Queens, if you call that living.
